Horizon Europe Herit4Ages Project Sets Sail: Pioneering Sustainable Solutions for Historic Buildings

16-12-2023

The Horizon Europe Herit4Ages project (User-centric and data-driven retrofitting solutions for a resilient, energy efficient, low-emission and inclusive cultural heritage) had its kick-off meeting last November 30th. This project, coordinated by the University College of Cork (Ireland) and with a strong participation from FCT NOVA, will demonstrate that it is possible to improve the overall performance of historic buildings while preserving their architectural and cultural identity. Given that the spectrum of historic buildings is very broad and subject to protection laws with different levels of intervention; the project aims to develop a set of solutions that can be replicated in different parts of Europe. The participation of FCT NOVA (coordinated by Professors Pedro Pereira and Joao Martins) comprises the sustainable energy integration of renewable energies, the management of energy flow in those buildings (through the development of an Energy Router adapted to historic buildings) and the implementation of the concepts of energy flexibility and non-intensive load monitoring. Over the next 4 years, FCT NOVA will develop renewable energy integration equipment and non-intrusive algorithms specifically adapted to historical heritage.
